At the first live Unpacked event in San Francisco since days prior to pandemic lockdowns in 2020, Samsung is doubling down on what worked in phones last year, and is bringing its Ultra branding to its laptop PCs.

Ahead of Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite announcement, T-Mobile and SpaceX hooked up, Huawei announced limited satellite messaging, and Qualcomm added “satellite” to its modem pitch deck. Verizon, AT&T, Vodafone and others are working with satellite providers, too.

Samsung invested early in foldables and with each new generation it refined its software, hardware, and durability. The fourth generation Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 are not radical departures, but Samsung’s incremental improvements have broadened the market for foldables overall and should keep Samsung well ahead of competitors.

With the OnePlus 10T it’s easy to see how OnePlus’s strategic shift is turning into products. Given the OnePlus 10T’s value proposition and lack of Chinese competition in the U.S. market, that’s not a bad thing.
